Als Janek Hania auf den Straßen des nächtlichen Warschaus davor rettet, von einem Auto überfahren zu werden, ist es Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Doch ihre Liebe steht unter keinem guten Stern. Hanias Vater, ein Arzt, wurde aus fadenscheinigen Gründen entlassen. Er ist Jude und damit Opfer der antisemitischen Hetzkampagne, die im Zuge des Sechstagekrieges in fast allen sowjetischen Staaten gegen den „Zionismus“ und den „israelischen Imperialismus“ gefahren wird.
Ein Film über eine Generation zwischen Partys, Jazz und Politik, staatliche Willkür und den Verlust von Heimat.

When Janek saves Hania on the streets of night-time Warsaw from being hit by a car, it’s love at first sight. But their love is not born under a lucky star. Hania’s father is a medical doctor who has been fired for spurious reasons. He’s a Jew and thus a victim of the anti-Semitic hate campaign that swept through almost all the Comecon member states in the wake of the Six Days War in the form of accusations of “Zionism” and “Israeli Imperialism”.
A film about a generation between parties, jazz, and politics, state tyranny, and the loss of a home country and a sense of place.
