In den 1950er und 60er Jahren ist ein kleines Holzhaus mit Scheune im amerikanischen Niemandsland am Fuße der Catskills Sinnbild für Freiheit und Queerness. Aus der Perspektive verschiedener Transpersonen erzählt die Dokumentation von ihrer Zeit als sogenannte „Crossdresser“ in der Casa Susanna – einem vergessenen, aber wichtigen Teil ihrer frühen Transidentität. Eine Geschichte voller Lärm, Wut und außergewöhnlicher Persönlichkeiten wie der berühmten Susanna, der Begründerin und Namensgeberin dieses Zufluchtsorts.
Im Anschluss sprechen Karola Gramann und Heide Schlüpmann (Kinothek Asta Nielsen) mit dem Regisseur Sébastien Lifshitz (Hybrid).

In the 1950s and 1960s, a small wooden cabin with a barn in the no-man’s land at the foot of the Catskills in America is a symbol of freedom and queerness.
From the perspective of various trans people, the documentary tells of their time as so-called “crossdressers” in the Casa Susanna – a forgotten but important part of their early transgender identities.
A story full of sound and fury and unusual personalities such as the famous Susanna, founder of this safe haven and the person who gave it its name.
Includes a subsequent discussion with Karola Gramann and Heide Schlüpmann (Kinothek Asta Nielsen) with the director Sébastien Lifshitz (hybrid).
