Thirty-year-old Adam is on the process of conversion. He arrives to a small clinic for the circumcision, only to find that what should be a sacred and deeply personal milestone quickly spirals into an awkward, absurd, and unexpectedly moving encounter. This dry and witty comedy avoids simple parody or provocation, celebrates the complexity of the ritual, finding humour in the universal experience of exposing oneself – literally and emotionally.
Based on director Alexander Saul’s actual conversion experience, and with fast-paced timing and tonal precision, Snipped uses the vulnerability of the body to explore far larger questions of identity, belonging and masculinity. Bold, fearless, and deeply humane, it demonstrates how the most intimate ceremonies can illuminate the unexpected common ground between people.
