Tel Aviv after the October 7 massacre: Musician Y. and his partner, dancer Yasmine, perform as eccentric party clowns for a group of wealthy, decadent members of the Israeli upper class. Living a precarious existence while putting on wild performances, the two dream of finally using their talents to achieve financial success and a new life.
When Y. is commissioned by a Russian oligarch to compose a patriotic anthem celebrating Israel’s war against the Palestinians, the couple’s life is turned upside down. As news from Gaza flood their screens and the streets of Tel Aviv fill with nationalist rhetoric, Y. and Yasmine are increasingly confronted with the limits of their moral compass.
In YES, Nadav Lapid paints a ruthless, cutting portrait of a country caught between decadence and destruction, hope and resignation — a keenly observed social satire shaken by war and violence.
