THE FIRST LADY is a life-affirming and powerful documentary about one of the first transgender figures in Israel, Efrat Tilma. After 35 years in exile — spent in Paris, Morocco, and Berlin — she returns to her homeland only to discover that the patterns of discrimination she had once escaped are now being repeated under the Netanyahu government. After some initial hesitation, she decides to join forces with young activists to fight once again for equality and visibility, revealing a long-hidden secret in the process.
