The Har HaMenuchot (“Mount of Rest”) cemetery in Jerusalem, Israel’s largest Jewish cemetery, looks like a micro-metropolis. More than 2,500 people are buried here every year. As space is becoming increasingly scarce, an extraordinary solution has been devised deep inside the mountain. Known as the “Eternal Tunnels,” this sprawling underground tunnel system offers an additional 23,000 burial plots, allowing for compliance with religious laws while also avoiding further encroachment on the surrounding landscape.

In a city where death is ever-present, NECROPOLIS takes viewers on a haunting cinematic journey into the hidden world beneath Jerusalem. Navigating the intersection of physical labor and religious service, technological innovation and centuries-old tradition, the film offers a fascinating panorama of transience, faith, and present-day conflicts that are inextricably linked to notions of eternity.
