Jewish Film Days 2026
Jewish Film Days Frankfurt — Jewish Culture on the Big Screen
The Jewish Film Days (JFT) Frankfurt was founded in 2016 by the Cultural Department of the Jewish Community of Frankfurt and has been supported ever since by the Cultural Office and the Department of Culture of the City of Frankfurt am Main. The festival has been held biennially since 2016, presenting a multifaceted panorama of Jewish cinema from Israel and the diaspora. The festival aims to serve as a platform for artistic expression, cultural dialogue, and social debate. Jewish cinema explores themes of identity, memory, belonging, and change — sometimes serious, sometimes humorous but always complex. Through feature films, documentaries, short films, and other artistic works, the festival brings the diversity of Jewish life to Frankfurt’s screens.
From the very beginning, the festival has been supported by a strong network of cultural partners. Long-standing partners include the cinema of the DFF – German Film Institute & Film Museum, the Mal Seh’n Kino, the Filmforum Höchst, and the Arthouse Kinos Frankfurt. Along with many other arts and cultural institutions, they help shape the festival as an integral part of Frankfurt’s cultural landscape.
The Jewish Film Days Frankfurt believes that film is not only an art form but also a forum for engagement. In addition to the film screenings, the festival hosts discussions with directors, producers, and other industry professionals where people can exchange ideas and engage in dialogue. Every two years, international guests come to Frankfurt to share their insights into diverse Jewish experiences, perspectives, and realities.
As one of the few Jewish film festivals in Germany, the Jewish Film Days Frankfurt aims to raise awareness of Jewish life and contemporary Jewish cultures. The festival invites audiences to question preconceived notions, learn about new perspectives, and appreciate the diversity of Jewish experiences. The select films tell stories of personal and collective memories, cross-generational family histories, social upheavals, and the challenges of our time.
At the heart of the festival is a belief in the unifying power of art and culture. Films create space for reflection, empathy, and dialogue that transcends social, cultural, and political boundaries. They facilitate encounters between different experiences and perspectives, thereby making an important contribution to the creation of an open, pluralistic, and democratic society, regardless of borders.
